Susan G. Komen grant recipients announced


Komen allocates $678,500 to 10 non-profit programs in five-county area

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (April 24, 2013) -- On Wednesday, April 17 the Southwest Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced the recipients of 10 grants to non-profit organizations providing education, screening, treatment and support to the medically underserved in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. The grant award ceremony took place at a luncheon at Vi at Bentley Village.
The grant application process ended in February 2013 for programs taking place from April 1, 2013 through March 31, 2014. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the affiliate remain at the local level, one of the factors enabling non-profit organizations in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties to benefit from the grant distribution.

“For us this is the best day of the year,” said Charlie Myrick, Executive Director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “This is the time when we get to put the dollars back into our community to expand education, screening, treatment and support throughout Southwest Florida.”
