Plans announced for 2013 Star Spangled Bonita celebration


BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (June 11, 2013) - The City of Bonita Springs will celebrate Independence Day with the annual Star Spangled Bonita event on Thursday, July 4 at Riverside Park in Bonita Springs. The event will feature live entertainment, children’s activities, eating contests, an old-fashioned bed race, and a laser light show and spectacular fireworks display after dark. The festivities will begin at 4 p.m.

Headlining the show will be Sarah Hadeka, singer, songwriter, and award-winning musician.

The celebration will begin with an old-fashioned bed race taking place along Old U.S. 41 beginning at 4 p.m. Interested participants are asked to pre-register with the YMCA by calling 239.221.7560 or by calling Jack Brown 239.325.7866.

The children’s activity area will host a bounce house, a water slide and lots of other activities. Watermelon, hot dog and ice cream eating contests will also take place throughout the afternoon.

The Liles Artists’ Cottages will be open to the public.

The Rotary Run will begin at 7:30 am. Star Spangled Bonita has been a tradition since the City of Bonita Springs incorporated in 2000. Admission to Star Spangled Bonita is free to the entire community. Food and beverages will be available for purchase with proceeds from the beverage sales going to the Bonita Springs Rotary.
