Pelican Sound Golf & River Club raises more than $67,000 this year for breast cancer treatment and prevention


BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (March 26, 2014) – Pelican Sound Golf & River Club in Estero raised $67,700 at its 12th annual Rally for the Cure. The proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen Southwest Florida where 75 percent of the funds will remain in Southwest Florida to benefit the local community and 25 percent will go toward breast cancer research.

A milestone was achieved this year as Pelican Sound Golf & River Club surpassed the half million dollar mark. Since 2002, Pelican Sound Golf & River Club has raised over of $536,000 to aid in the education, treatment and prevention of breast cancer.

“We can’t thank our community partners enough,” stated Charlie Myrick, executive director of Susan G. Komen Southwest Florida. “Through efforts and fundraising events like Rally for the Cure, we are able to better serve those who are at risk or have already been diagnosed with breast cancer.”

The annual Rally for the Cure at Pelican Sound features a silent and live auction, an Ipad raffle, selling ads for an annual service directory, a used golf equipment sale and a double shotgun golf tournament in which over 320 women participate. The event took place over the course of two days.

In 2013, the International Network of Golf (ING) honored Cynthia Boal Janssens, who has chaired this Rally for all 12 years, with its Chi Chi Rodriguez Humanitarian Award for her efforts. Earlier she was honored by Pinnacle Golf with its “Going the Distance” award for fighting breast cancer.
