Naples attorney pens book to teach children about lawyers

NAPLES, Fla. (May 1, 2012) – Jacqueline Buyze, attorney, mediator and newly published children’s author, will celebrate National Law Day on May 3 at 9 a.m. by facilitating a 5th grade class at Three Oaks Elementary School in Fort Myers. The timing coincides with the recent release of her first book, A Story of Lawyers, published by Mascot Books with illustrations by Klaus Shmidheiser.

Described by the author as “a love letter to the profession,” A Story of Lawyers is a tribute to attorneys and a fun introduction to the practice of law. The book was inspired by attorneys who have played a significant role in Buyze’s professional development and includes illustrated likenesses of some of her closest colleagues and friends.

Buyze said the book, which is planned to be the first of a series, conveys its positive messages through gentle rhyme, and was written with very clear goals including: to educate children about the work lawyers do, to improve public perception of the legal field, and to honor those “who admirably serve our wonderful profession.”

The book launch has included several signings and special appearances. Buyze has been invited to be a guest speaker at the Florida Bar Association’s annual conference in Orlando in June.

“It is my hope that my books will serve as a catalyst for dialog with children and others about various types of lawyers and the many ways they serve our communities and our profession,” Buyze continued.

A Story of Lawyers is available at Barnes & Nobel, Books-A-Million,, and
